The Blue-winged Pitta, Pitta moluccensis, is a species of bird in the Pittidae family. Its natural habitat is subtropical and tropical moist lowland forests.
This bird spends most of its time on the forest floor foraging for food such as grubs and insects among the leaf litter. Pittas are some of the most colourful birds and this blue-winged pitta is no exception. Here you can see the brilliant hues of red, green, with a mostly orange underbelly and of course its brilliant blue wings which give it its name.
The forest environment which this bird dwells in poses a challenge for bird photography due to its very dim lighting, a very stable setup and lots of efforts keeping still is needed to get a clear and sharp shot due to the very low shutter speed.
